Step 1 Measuring the necessary width and height of the gate to allow access for vehicles

When you fit a new driveway gate you need to be sure that your car will fit through, but also any other vehicle that may need access, from delivery vans to emergency vehicles. Obviously, some gates need to have the height taken into account as well.

Obviously, by coming to us at Sentinel Security, we have the experience and expertise to do this quickly and accurately. We have installed a large number of gates and know how to ensure that it is of sufficient size.

Step 2 Positioning the gate

Whatever gate you are opting for, you should be considering its use over a long term. If you live on a road which has any amount of traffic above none then you will need space for vehicles to wait between the road and the gate. Whether you are going to have an automated gate with a door phone or just a traditional gate, there will be times when a vehicle will be waiting to enter.

Step 3 Decide on automated entry

Automation can be an important benefit, from simple convenience of not standing in the rain opening and closing the gate up to keeping out intruder. Before you choose the gate you should decide on whether you want it automated.

Step 4 Evaluate swinging vs. sliding driveway gate options

This really depends on the size and layout of the space around the gate. Sliding gates can often be an appropriate alternative if the space behind the gate is insufficient to accomodate a swinging gate. But a sliding gate will need space to the left or right for gate when open. Sliding gates are also a good idea if you have a sloping driveway, where the contour of the ground would interfere with the opening or closing of the gate.
